On the buses? Off more like!

Dear Editor

Interesting to read that the Titsa bus service is going to introduce a new swipe card for its buses and trams at a very substantial sum.

Personally, can’t see the reason why because what is wrong with the Bono card?

Wouldn’t the money be better spent on other improvements, not least the services themselves.

It’s ironic that on an island with so many tourists and people being encouraged to take the bus rather than use the car, reliability isn’t exactly the shining point of Titsa or at least that is what I think.

You can wait ages for a bus and it knocks, only for two to come at the same time or one arrives and it is so full up that it just drives past. Sometimes, we stand at the bus stop in Los Cristianos waiting up to an hour for the bus and it is so depressing seeing the queue getting longer and longer and just knowing you will have to stand up!

Isn’t that in itself a hazard? We have been on the bus when it is jam-packed with passengers standing in the aisles. What would happen if the bus was involved in an accident. Everyone would be flung forward or worse, there could easily be a stampede or people trampled on.

Personally, I am totally off going on the buses and would welcome things like better bus shelters, more benches and as I have said, more reliable buses.
