Hiker stretchered off Mount Teide
This picture shows the difficult terrain rescuers have to contend with when an emergency happens in the Teide National Park.
On this occasion, a hiker called the 1-1-2 emergency service himself when he fell and injured himself near the Altavista refuge.
Firefighters had to take the cable car to get to the man who had damaged his ankle and could not walk. He was placed on a stretcher and carried back down the path known as route 7 (Pico Teide – Montaña blanca) from where an ambulance took over.
Staff from the National Park and medics were also involved in the 8am rescue.
