Los Abrigos hears rundown of new road safety scheme
Granadilla Council has been unveiling details of a major road plan which it hopes will solve problems at a blackspot in Los Abrigos.
Meetings are being held with residents to explan the project for the TF-643 in the fishing village.
The Mayor, Jaime González Cejas says details have been signed and it is hoped finally to respond to residents’ demands for a great number of years.
The problems exist with safety at the roundabout connecting the TF-65 and the Barranco de Agua Dulce.
The Mayor said the scheme was the result of years of work to eradicate the danger posed by this road which took a significant amount of traffic every day. It would also improve the look of the entrance to Los Abrigos and its accessibility.
The work will be financed by Tenerife Cabildo and will look at the way cars are currently parked, the pedestrian crossings and the position of the bus station.
The pavement is to be made wider, with a new pedestrian footbridge, a central reservation and new speed limits of 50kph but recommended only 40kph near parked cars.
The whole project is to cost in excess of 700,000 euros.
