Tegueste market “goes green” with special pledge
Tegueste market has taken yet another step in its quest to be the best. It has just joined a “sustainable business” network developed by Tenerife Cabildo which pledges a commitment to the new green economy.
A series of short and long-term projects will be undertaken to further improve products and services whilst consuming less resources and therefore less pollution. Members will also receive specialist training and support for innovation in order to differentiate the market from others.
In addition to this, the market has signed a statement of intent relating to social welfare, education, equality, human rights, ethics and transparency, information and the environment.
Priority will be given to the purchase of products and hiring of services that are kinder to the environment as well as the promotion of Fair Trade.
It will also contribute to energy improvement and reduction of emissions in order to reduce carbon foot-prints, in addition to the best possible waste management.
The Farmers’ Market and Artisan Tegueste celebrated ten years this summer and has achieved outstanding success.
