A great way to see La Graciosa

Lanzarote’s Cabildo is inviting applications for a major event on La Graciosa early next year.

The “8th Island Challenge” is to be held on February 20th, 21st and 22nd, 2015 but for the triathlon part of the event, there is a limit of 250 competitors and 150 for two distances in a trail.

This will be the fourth year for the challenge, so called because lovely La Graciosa is often called the eighth island of the Canarie, being right next door to Lanzarote.

Applications will close once the full numbers have been achieved.

A new innovation will be an eight metre trail, considered the right distance for newcomers to the sport. February 20th will also see a new children’s race.

The triathlon starts at 11am on February 21st, with the 1,000 metre swim, 20km bike ride and six kilometre race. To win the title, competitors must also take part in the 31km race the next day. This is one of the three distances on February 22nd, the others being 20km and eight kilometres.
