Street lighting “puts residents in danger”

Socialist councillors at San Juan de la Rambla have deplored the state of street lighting, saying it is putting residents in danger.

They claim the local council is doing nothing to rectify the situation and say it is “shameful” that weeks and months go by without the replacement of defective bulbs which leave whole areas in darkness.

Elderly people and those with mobility problems are particularly at risk of an accident, they add, as well as those who go out in the evening to talk to local restaurants.

The Socialists say this all adds to the state of “abandonment” of the municipality when something like street lighting should be regarded as a fundamental service.

They are calling on the governing group to plan proper maintenance and repairs and stop making a mockery of complaints from residents.
