Smelling the coffee in the capital
A group of Italian entrepreneurs have given a major boost to Santa Cruz by announcing plans for four businesses and the creation of at least 70 new jobs.
They say they chose the capital for a number of reasons, including its strategic location, its cleanliness, its safety and potential for economic growth.
The Italian food company is planning to open three coffee shops and a coffee factory, the latter by the port.
It is hoped to open the coffee cafes between September and November, providing jobs for 20 people, followed by the coffee factory in about six months.
A lot of the coffee will be exported but also for the local market.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez said they were delighted as it was part of their plan for the future of the city to attract outside investment. There has already been interest from potential investors from Russia.
