Green light for two more wind farms
Two new wind parks are to be set up in Granadilla, the Mayor has confirmed.
Both will be installed at the industrial park, one of 18 megawatts and the other of 16.
Announcing the news, Jaime González Cejas said negotiations had taken some years to conclude but the green light had now been given. It was, he said, a great boost for the municipality which had always focused on alternative energy and environmental sustainability.
Those involved in the venture are the Granadilla industrial estate, the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energy, the municipality and the publicly owned Granadilla de Suelo Sur SL (Grasur). The council will have a 35 per cent stake and will receive significant revenue once they are up and running.
The Mayor said they were working on submitting an environmental impact study and hoped that contracts could be awarded within a year.
The council will receive 12,000 euros for each megawatt produced by the wind farms.
