Beach alert after woman and child rescued
Sunbathers have been urged not to under-estimate the strength of the sea, especially when it is very windy on Tenerife.
The general alert follows a timely rescue off the beach of La Tejita in El Médano when lifeguards came to the aid of a mother and child who got into difficulties.
The woman, in her 20s, had tried to rescue her young son, of about four, when he began to struggle in the heavy swells caused by the windy weather.
Both were checked over and were fine despite their ordeal.
Granadilla council has reminded people that the yellow flag will fly on the beaches when the conditions are rough. The yellow flag advises caution whilst the red means it is dangerous and you should not go in the wáter.
