Annual swim postponed due to red tape delay
A popular charity swim which should have taken place on August 30th in Guimar has been postponed until September 27th.
The sports department of Guimar council has apologised for the situation but says it was beyond their control. The postponement is not because of the strong tides Tenerife has been experiencing but due to “bureaucratic delays”.
However, looking on the bright side, they hope this will give more time for people to enter the 13th Travesía del Puertito de Güímar.
Sports councillor, Pedro Daniel Pérez said the situation was not their fault or that of joint organisers, Asociación Anima2. It was because permissions needed from the Harbour Master and Coastal Services had not been received in time.
The swim is over a distance of 1,500 metres, starting and finishing in the zone of Las Cañitas. This event, designed to promote healthy leisure, is open to all. However, there is also a race for children aged under 14 with a distance of 300 metres.
