Local Lions Clubs join the fun of Holi Mela to raise funds with a giant paella
The 16th March marked a remarkable day in the calendar of the Indian community of Tenerife South. They celebrated one of their most important festivals – the festival of colours, fondly known as Holi.
Holi is a religious spring festival which falls in the month of March, which marks the arrival of spring. Each year the festival has increased in the number of people attending and this year was no different. There was an enthusiastic crowd of more than a thousand people in attendance this year, not just from the Indian com-munity, but also many Spanish, English and other nationalities, all enjoying themselves throwing colou-red powder, splashing in the water and dancing to the typical Indian music. The main focus of this year’s celebration was a Gran Paella provided by Gourmet Land.
The event was to raise funds for the Centre for the Disabled in Adeje and the Association of San Juan.
Organisers would like to extend their thanks to The Lions Club International Tenerife South, Gourmet Land, sponsor of the Gran Paella, the Ayuntamiento of Adeje, Restaurante Gula, Joyeria Scorpio, Adeje Bomberos and all the volunteers and sponsors.
