Mayor to head Puerto consortium
The Mayor of Puerto de la Cruz has taken on an additional role.
Marcos Brito also becomes president of the Urban Consortium for the Rehabilitation of Puerto de la Cruz. He takes over from Tenerife Cabildo president, Carlos Alonso.
The consortium is spearheading the plans for the revitalisation and refurbishment of Puerto and its facilities and has just announced 38 projects following discussions with hoteliers and entrepre-neurs. Of these, 24 correspond to the rehabilitation of tourist accommodation (hotels and apartments). These schemes are going out to public consu-ltation.
Chairing his last meeting, Sr. Alonso said these agreements demonstrated that the business community was actively involved in the renewal of the destination. They would tackle some 7,000 bed spaces, representing 36% of those available in Puerto, together with the construction of two new hotels and a rural casa.
