Puerto prepares for “Noche en Blanco 2013”

Puerto de la Cruz likes to celebrate its old traditions but it also believes in moving with the times.

New technology is being used to the full to promote a major event in the town on October 12th.

The third edition of “Noche en Blanco” or “Night in White” is expected to attract thousands of people and the streets will become the hub of all the activity.

There will be culture and gastronomy, commerce and entertainment, music, children’s activities, exhibition, guided routes, sport, fashion shows and more.

No stone is being left unturned to promote the event which already has its own poster using augmented reality, a programme which can be downloaded through QR, its own website on www.nocheenblancopuerto.com and social network sites on Facebook and Twitter (@nocheenblancoPC).

The two previous editions of “Noche en Blanco” have proved a huge success, with the first having more than 60 activities and the second equally as popular.

For this third time, Puerto council’s economic development council wants to give an even greater role to the commercial sector and to encourage people to come out and shop, as well as enjoying themselves.  There will be a major outdoor retail area with over 50 attractions, under the banner of “Take the trade to the streets” and at least 90 stands. This will help all businesses to turn the spotlight on their products, regardless of where their shop is actually situated.

Many of the traders will take the opportunity to sell off surplus summer stock to plenty of bargains are guaranteed.  Bars, restaurants and cafes will also be taking part.

Puerto is considered an ideal environment for a festival of this kind, with its pleasant temperature all year and its location right on the ocean.

Councillor responsible for the area, Lope Afondo said everyone had given overwhelming support to all three editions of the White Night and it all helps to revitalise the town.

At the time of going to press, the full programme was awaited but you can catch up with developments on www.nocheenblancopuerto.com which is available in a number of languages, including English. On the basis of previous editions, you can expect dancing and dance classes, inflatables, music, a chance to try different sports and leisure pursuits like badminton and yoga, workshops and exhibitions, entertainment and much more. You will find something going on in the day and many in the early evening until after midnight.
