Trio stole bikes for African shipment
Police on Gran Canaria have arrested three men after discovering a bizarre series of thefts.
Three individuals of African descent are believed to have stolen dozens of bicycles during this year and throug-hout 2012.
They were caught red-handed as they loaded more than 100 bikes into a van which had then intended to travel to Puerto de La Luz for shipping abroad in a container.
Police had been told a gang was stealing various items with the express intention of sending them over to Africa. They had also stolen tools, televisions and DVD players, as well as clothing and footwear, both new and unused.
The three men are aged between 35 and 55 and have been charged with receiving stolen goods.
Police organised a special open day when the bikes were available to view in case members of the public recognised their property.
