Outrage as woman is stabbed to death

Has been expressed following the death of a young mother of two in what is believed to be the first case of domestic violence in Tenerife this year.
The woman was stabbed in front of her children in Santa Cruz last week and her ex-partner has been arrested in connection with the murder.
Organisations and authorities have joined forces to condemn the crime, including the Canary Parliament, Tenerife Cabildo, Santa Cruz city council and the Forum Against Gender Violence. All of them have observed a minute’s of silence in her memory.
Government representative in the Canary Islands, Maria del Carmen Hernández Bento expressed revulsion at events like the one in which this young woman lost her life.
It is understood the man who was wanted in connection with her murder voluntarily went to the police station shortly after the crime which was allegedly committed in a lift.
The Canary Government also expressed revulsion at the murder and offered deep condolences to the victim’s family. It said it was totally committed to the fight against gender violence and to increase protection for victims. The need for all society to denounce such violence was also stressed.
Women who are involved in a cycle of violence are also being urged to break away and seek help.
