New shifts for La Laguna taxis
Taxi drivers in La Laguna are to follow the example of colleagues in Santa Cruz to try and find enough work for all of them under new systems.
The local council says a number of experiments are acceptable provided the public service is not compromised for members of the public.
Councillors and representatives of the taxi drivers have agreed to a number of different proposals, most of them subject to a trial period to test their feasibility.
With effect from March 11th to April 5th inclusive, each licence holder will be rested one day a week between Monday and Friday. This will affect 72 licences. In addition, each licence must rest one day of the weekend on alternate weekends. This trial is from April 13th to May 3rd and will involve 180 licences on a Saturday and 180 on a Sunday.
The rest periods will be between 6am one day and 6am the other and will not affect shifts at Los Rodeos airport. All the vehicles will be identified by the appropriate stickers and numbers.
