More recycling points in La Orotava
La Orotava makes a further commitment to helping the environment.
The town hall has organised the installation of collection points for electrical and electronic equipment such as mobile phones, radios, irons, consoles, videos, printers, speakers and so on. There are 40 sites in all, including municipal facilities and schools.
The collaboration between the local council and the Canary Recycling Foundation will also see awareness campaigns throughout the municipality.
Environment councillor, Luis Perrera said problems often arose when electrical or electronic equipment broke and people had to throw them away. This could prove harmful both to the environment and health, hence the appeal to act responsibly and to dispose of them properly.
The service has the added merit that the items are not sent to the peninsula but are recycled in the Canaries.
La Orotava hopes to add to its “green” facilities soon by having containers for other contaminants such as batteries. It already has sites for plastic and paper collections.
