La Laguna to share police

La Laguna has struck up a new policing agreement which could be the first of others to come across Tenerife.

For the rest of this year, the Local Police will team up with Canary Police to share re-sources and collaborate on various projects.

Councillor for security, Jose Alberto Diaz said it was the ayuntamiento’s responsibility to save money and to successfully manage the number of agents and re-sources.

This “sharing” arrangement is also being discussed by other municipalities and is likely to spread over the island.

Both sets of police will be involved in joint ventures such as policing local events and traffic.

“We have to build a model between the two,” said Sr. Diaz.
