Iberia increases island flights

Iberia is to increase its flights from Madrid to Tenerife with effect from this summer.

Tenerife Cabildo announced the news following a meeting with the airline and hopes that other companies will do the same.

Cabildo vicepresident and tourism chief, Carlos Alonso said increased connectivity to the island was a main priority and met demands from tour operators. They considered it essential if hotel occupancy was to be increased.

The Iberia routes will increase from the summer by 61 flights, which will average two more per week from July 1st to September 15th. These new flights will be at night, departing from Madrid at 23.55 hours and Tenerife at 02.40 on Thursdays and Sundays.

The increase in Iberia flights between the Capital and Tenerife South represents a total of 288 operations, 27% more than in summer 2012. As for the number of places, the offer on this route would be about 44,800 seats, an increase of 1.8%.

Sr. Alonso said the Cabildo would do all within its power to encourage various airlines to strengthen and increase their links to south Tenerife.
