Dispute over beach sunbeds
Counting sunbeds is on the agenda for Aro-na Council officials following a dispute involving Los Cristianos beach.
The Popular Party has claimed “irregularities” in the concession for sunbeds on Playa de Las Vistas. They say there are 1,489 sunbeds on the beach when there should only be 1,200.
The PP has also raised questions about payments for the right to run hiring of the beds from the company and if deadlines are being met. Party spokesman, Dionisio Rocha said the concession was required to pay 1.4 million euros and this money should be paid at the start of the arrangement and wants to know if this is the case. The council says the time-scale has not yet expired.
The PP is also accusing Arona Council of causing a loss of municipal assets, alleging that a number of services are being offered without legal cover whilst the authority still managed to increase taxes for citizens.
On the subject of the sunbed numbers, the council says it will investigate “as soon as possible” to make sure the concession is meeting all the requirements.
