Ammunition found in dump
A refuse collection worker got quite a shock when emptying a bin in the centre of Santa Cruz. The operator immediately phoned the police after discovering 36 cartridges and 19 shell cases commonly used in pistols. Officers who went to the scene included agents with the special weapons inspection unit. On searching the underground container, they found more ammunition and several pieces of a dismantled gun. Police believe the items probably belonged to a shooting sports enthusiast. However, it is illegal to dispose of guns and ammunition in this way and the culprit will face a stiff fine.
