Saida inquiry: Ministry’s refusal
The Canary Government has refused at this stage to get involved with the investigation into how Santa Cruz Carnival Queen candidate Saida Prieto came to be burnt in a horrific accident during selection night. A person who describes themselves as “a friend of Saida” has written to the Department of Industry and Energy with two complaints and has asked them to launch an inquiry. However, the department says this is not their jurisdiction as they would only investigate if a fire happened on industrial land. They would also check such things as extinguishers, emergency exits and other safety measures to ensure they complied with regulations. One of the key points of the case will be whether or not the city council did allow the use of a cold firework in another contestant’s outfit and/or whether correct procedures were followed when the application was made.
