Los Silos hotel is a shining light
A small hotel in Los Silos is proving a shining star on the island. Despite the economic recession, the hotel Luz del Mar, in the Sibora region, has notched up five years of success.
It has just 49 rooms and is away from the main beaches but this has proved no stumbling block. The family atmosphere, creative cuisine and entertainment programme means it has achieved an average occupancy rate of between 65% and 70% and gets top marks for its service. In fact, 2011 was its best year yet with 100% occupancy in March, October and November.
The hotel is surrounded by a banana plantation and is just 200 metres from the sea. It has two floors and large gardens and is very much favoured by nature lovers and hikers who can enjoy on foot or bicycle the Isla Baja, Masca, natural coves and the history of Garachico.
Half of its staff have been working there sine 2007 whilst a quarter of them have been on the staff for at least three years.
Of the 49 rooms, 14 are en suite and there are extensive gardens and underground parking. Guests can enjoy international and Canary dishes.
