The cultural association Mazarribah (www.myspace.com/mazarribah) has set up TacoronteFreecycle® and IcodFreecycle®, and in the south of the island Katja Lehmonen has created SanMiguelDeAbonaFreecycle®. www.groups.yahoo.com/group/TacoronteFreecycle / www.groups.yahoo.com/group/IcodFreecycle / www.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sanmigueldeabonafreecycle.
These groups form part of the Freecycle® network which serves to match people who have things they want to get rid of with people who can use them. The aim is to keep usable items out of the landfill. By using what we already have on this earth, we reduce consumerism, manufacture fewer goods, and lessen the impact on the earth. Another benefit of using Freecycle is that it encourages us to get rid of junk that we no longer need and promote community involvement in the process. Founded on the 1st and 9th of March and the 28th of April 2008, the Tacoronte, Icod and San Miguel de Abona Freecycle groups are branches of the international Freecycle movement, which began in Tucson, AZ on May 1st, 2003 and now boasts thousands of groups all over the world. Please help this group grow by spreading the word! We all personally know lots of great people in our community who would love this idea. At this moment The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,616 groups with 5,941,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (in this case Mazarribah and Katja). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box at www.freecycle.org or send an email to-
