La Gomera's whistling language, officially recognised as Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad last year, now has a document to prove it.

On July 5, Aránzazu Gutierrez handed over an original Certificate recording its Heritage status to the Cabildo Insular's Minister of Culture and Historical Heritage, Juan Alonso Herrera. The mayor of Hermigua, Solver Clemente also received a copy which will be distributed to each municipality to serve as a reminder of this unique and extraordinary recognition.
The handover took place as part of the celebration of the I Encuentro Folclórico en Homenaje a la Declaración del Silbo Gomero como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad en Los Aceviños, an event organized by the Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands Government and the City of Hermigua
