The ash cloud effect on Tenerife - New five day charts PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 June 2010 18:14

Five day ash prediction charts are now available to provide an indication of possible ash cloud dispersion beyond the short term.

Until now, the Met Office has provided charts showing ash forecasts for the next 18 hours, and these remain the charts on which operational decisions are made.
These charts indicate the forecast position of the volcanic ash cloud at 1200 GMT each day for the next five days for the altitudes indicated. It must be stressed that the five day charts are based on observed volcanic activity at the time of issue and should be regarded as indicative only.
The charts assume that the volcano will continue to erupt at the same intensity at the time of each issue for the whole of the following five day period. Importantly, during the course of this event the volcano’s activity has not remained constant for more than a couple of days.
Any operational decisions on any airspace restrictions deemed necessary to keep airlines flying safely are the responsibility of CAA/NATS and further information on the impacts to airspace should be sought from them.
You can check the charts on www.metoffice.gov.uk
