The Tenerife Cabildo is thrilled with the success of its Marine Sports Centre known as Cidemat.
The activities are run through the public business Ideco and were very well supported during 2009.
Over the year, some 5,498 people took advantage of the centre, 14.9 per cent more than in 2008.
Group activities were particularly popular with 3,530 students taking part in nautical themed days. Another 119 enjoyed the four day nautical weeks and there were a number of courses for skipper qualifications.
The greatest demand for places was during the spring and summer.
Activities very popular included canoeing, wind-surfing and water ski-ing and, for the first time, 185 people joined in the new aqua fitness programme.
