A seabird rescued in Tenerife 16 years ago has been found 4,662 kilometres and 5,024 day later in Canada! The incredible journey has thrilled conservationists who treated the Paiño de Leach in La Laguna in 1995 when it was found suffering from exhaustion. It was released back in to the wild in the October with an identification ring fitted.
A Canadian biologist doing research in the Nova Scotia area saw it came from Tenerife and relayed the information about its safe arrival all these years later.
This is the first time a Leach has been detected so far away but reflects the magnificent conservation work being carried out on Tenerife with birds and other species such as sea turtles and reptiles.
