Pupils at St Andrew’s School in El Sauzal were delighted to celebrate Harvest with one of the school’s regular visitors, the Reverend Michael Smith from All Saints' church, Puerto de la Cruz.
The classrooms had been decorated with autumn and Harvest artwork and generous donations of food had been collected to be distributed by the church for those in need. The children continued with their seasonal festivities the following week, making masks and participating in the traditional ducking for apples for Halloween. Some of the pupils have been honing their techniques over the years and managed to get an apple without getting wet! Others went for the full-immersion approach. Even the youngest members of the school were willing to have a go and a blind eye was turned to the blatant use of hands. A good time was had by all, proving an excellent finish to a successful first half-term. Saint Andrew’s prides itself on maintaining high standards and it’s small year groups ensure that each pupil receives an individual education enabling him/her to work at his/her own level, not the level of the class. Attention is also devoted to each child’s command of spoken English, resulting in a pleasing number of “native” speakers.
