At the end of March the Wingate School hosted the annual Junior Inter-School Sports at Cabo Blanco football pitch.

The British School from the north were their opponents and all one hundred and sixty of them arrived to take part in an action packed day!
The morning began with team sports.  Football, Rounders, Cricket and Benchball.  Some very exciting games were played by both sides, which resulted in Wingate taking the lead on the points table.
Following the team sports came the relay which were run in teams of eight.  Each year group had a team and the races were really exciting with great crowd participation urging on the individual runners all the way to the winning tape!  Wingate won all four races! An amazing achievement from the smaller of the two schools, which took them further into the lead on the points table!
Finally, it was time for the marathon.  An event in which a large number of children ran from all year groups around a wide area,  stopping on route to participate in ball, skipping and beanbag activities.  Each time a competitor completed a lap they threw a numbered ticket into a box.  The ticket was worth twelve points.  They ran for ten minutes and finally the hooter went off to signal the end of the race.  Points were totalled and the final result, when added to the points table, put the British School in the lead by thirty seven points!  It was enough to make them overall winners!  Wingate won the most medals but the British School took the Inter-School Sports Cup home.  A great day was had by all.
