The only school in Spain where one of the pupils achieved 10s in all her PAU university entrance exams.
A top quality private school run by parents as a co-operative and where everyone is treated as one big happy family sounds an educational dream. But did you know that one exists in Tenerife and that the Colegio Casa Azul is unique in the Canary Islands?
This lovely co-educational school is situated in the Orotava Valley between La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos and covers an area of more than 15,330 square metres.
It caters for students from the age of three to 17 (second stage of Infantil to 2º Bachillerato) and the aim is to have students who speak both English and Spanish by the end of their studies (German is also taught as a third language from 5º primaria).
Parents have always been at the heart of the school since a group of them got together to form the Colegio Casa Azul in 1973. They became partners and formed a co-operative to develop teaching activities at different levels and subjects, in any branch of knowledge or artistic form, as well as sport etc.
The ethos of this bi-lingual centre has always been to take students through the full cycle of their educational life, from primary level to high school, achieving high academic standards, a high level of English and incorporating modern technology. However, the school never loses sight of three important principles - discipline, education and knowledge as the basis for the happiness of pupils.
The college may be run on a co-operative basis but competitiveness is still inherent and it has always moved with the times to implement and adhere to quality management standards. The school tailors its content to suit what the student needs in order to develop and also fully prepares them for life at university through the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations. There are also tests for Starters, Movers, Flyers, Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET) and First Certificate in English.
The extensive facilities include a library, dining room, sports fields, playground, covered pavilion, gym, laboratories, IT suite, English classroom, music room, technology room and large green areas. Meals are served in a brand new modern dining room and cater for all tastes, including vegetarians, low cholesterol diets, low calories etc.
The hours for infant education, primary education and ESO one and two are in the morning from 8.50am to 12.30pm and in the afternoon from 2.45pm to 4.30pm. ESO three and four and Bachillerato one and two are from 8am to 2pm. For those students who need it, there is also further study available from 4.30pm to 6pm.
The school is also able to offer prior to discussion an early start programme from 7.30am and has a full range of extra curricular activities such as basketball, ballet, chess, karate, piano, multi-sport etc.
Colegio Casa Azul is very proud of it heritage, the ethical values it has always held so dear and the achievements of all involved.
