La Laguna is to play a leading role in a new campaign to protect historic cities from the threat of fire.

The city is a World Heritage Site and will be sharing its expertise with other famous locations such as Riga, Liverpool, Bergen, Cuenca and Holloko in Hungary.

The project is called “Heriprot” and will look at incident prevention in protected environments. La Laguna will be hosting seminars and a final simulation in due course but input will come from across Tenerife and the island’s fire crews.

Ten major European cities, all with World Heritage Site status, are taking part in the project which has a budget of 1.5 million euros.
