Experts have been turning their attention to an unusual but pressing subject. Wood termites.
There is very real concern across the Canary Islands that a plan of action needs to be drawn up to control these pests which can cause serious damage to churches.A special commission representing all seven islands is already investigating and the west in particular has been airing their experiences as these insects particularly like the more humid climatic conditions.
Commission head, Aurelio González from the Diocese of La Laguna said this was a common challenge because it was very difficult to kill these mites and they would need to draw on all expertise, solutions and latest technology.
