If you go along to the Carnival in Los Realejos, remember to wear a hat! This year’s theme is “El Sombrero” which speaks for itself and the slogan is “Carnavalero, a la calle con sombrero” ie. for the Carnival, take to the streets with a hat. That opens up all sorts of opportunities for the normal to the outrageous but is also within everyone’s budgets.
The local council is determined to show it can organise a great Carnival and has included all sorts of activities in the programme from a photographic exhibition to children’s activities. There will even be a new body painting competition and a twist to the traditional burning of the sardine with the burning of the gardener instead. The Carnival began on February 11th and continues until February 23rd.
