Boat arrivals

A second patera with illegal immigrants on board arrived at Lanzarote within a week. This latest small boat contained six passengers, five of them believed to be children or young people. All were said to be in good health despite their long journey and ordeal. The boat was intercepted by the Guardia Civíl.

Drug arrests:
Two men were arrested in the Gḯa de Isora area for cocaine trafficking. The 29 year old and 40 year old had apparently been selling the drugs around Santiago del Teide, Alcalá and Playa de las Américas. In total, police seized 100g of cocaine and a further 200g of hashish, some of which was hidden in a car.

Rent rise: Renting a property in the Canary Islands cost slightly more this August when compared with August of 2009.
Official figures show it went up 0.6% year on year but this is still below the national average increase which was 1%.
