Canaries turn to help the earthquake victims in Haiti PDF Print E-mail

Public and private instutions are already starting to channel aid and start various initiatives in aid of Haiti.

Municipalities in Pájara in Fuerteventura and Teror in Gran Canaria have already shown solidarity by collecting gifts to help with humanitarian aid desperately needed by the Haitian community after the earthquake last Wednesday.

In Teror Gran Canaria, workers and town councillors have started a collection of donations for victims of the earthquake which has already reached 5335.71 euros in emergency current accounts which will be transferred to the main holding accounts.
Similarly, in Pájara in Fuerteventura, workers and town councillors have raised another 500 euros in donations  which has gone into the UNICEF account, and they continue to raise money.
In collaboration with the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, Lanzarote Caritas and the Rotary Club, 24 yachts and catamarans entered in the Marina Rubicón-Regata Gran Prix del Atlántico, which began on January 13 in Cadiz, will leave Lanzarote on Monday from the Marina Rubicón, south of Lanzarote, with blankets, tents, first aid kits, flashlights and medicine, among other effects, which will be distributed by members of the Rotary Club and Caribbean NGO's when they arrive later this month at the port of Sansouci in the Dominican Republic.
