La Palma wins best Canary Island honey PDF Print E-mail

The eleventh edition of the regional competition from the Casa de la Miel brought together a total of 97 varieties of the highest quality honey, of which Tenerife presented 69, followed by La Palma with 23, El Hierro with three and La Gomera, two.

The highest award for the best monofloral honey in the Canaries went to Angel Alcalde of La Palma who produced an oregano honey under the brand name Puntagorda Taburiente.
The prize for the best coastal multifloral liquid honey went to Fernando Darias from La Gomera, and a prize for the best liquid honey from a bush went to Juan Antonio Castro of La Palma. José Acevedo, a Tenerife Buenavista beekeeper received the award for the best mountain crystallised honey. The top prize for liquid honey went to Miguel Miranda of Tenerife with a Guía de Isora honey under the El Productor brand name.
Other prizes for the best Tenerife honeys were awarded to Florencio Gutiérrez with a honey from Candelaria; José Javier Pérz with a honey from Las Cañadas, La Orotava; José García with honey from Arico;  Patricia Dorta with honey from El Rosario; Domingo Barroso with honey from La Matanza, all under the brand name El Productor; Juan Jesús Ramos with a La Orotava honey under the brand name Oromiel.
Prizes awarded for monofloral honeys were; best Fennel honey to Barbara Carballo of El Rosario, Pennyroyal by Carlos Ledesma from Guía de Isora under El Productor. The best monofloral chestnut honey went to Maria de los Angeles Estévez in La Victoria, Tenerife.
