The Cabildo is thrilled that a team from the Euronews TV channel has been on the island to film a special programme about this very unusual form of communication.
Silbo is still taught in schools and a journalist and cameraman, who flew in from Bejiing, are following a number of youngsters, adults and families. They are also having a go themselves and shooting scenes in the Garajonay National Park.
The programme is called “The World Learns” which spotlights on special skills but it will also show the charms of La Gomera.
President of La Gomera’s Cabildo Casimiro Curbelo said this was an unprecedented international tourism promotion and showed that the language of whistling was still of interest to the international media.
