At the moment, La Gomera's helicopters cannot be used for any night-time emergencies because the beacon that provides lighting to the landing strip approach is broken.

El Servicio de Urgencias Canario is demanding that the Spanish government, who officially owns the San Sebastian de la Gomera heliport, makes immediate repairs.
Since 1994, the Canary emergency department responsible for land and air transport for pre-hospital emergencies and urgent medical care  throughout the archipelago, has used the La Gomera heliport for flying patients to appropriate hospitals in any of the Canary Islands, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In 2009, the two SUC helicopters flew 96 patients from La Gomera to different hospitals over the archipelago, 88 of which were to Our Lady of La Candelaria hospital in Tenerife.
