Two British women were rescued after a brave helicopter crew fought dangerously bad weather.

The women, aged 54 and 57, were stranded on a remote precipice on La Gomera after one of them fell and broke a leg. Unable to walk, the rescue services were called in but strong gusts of wind of up to 60km per hour made the conditions extremely hazardous for the helicopter crew.
Nevertheless, they battled against the elements to lower down rescue equipment to a team below and the injured woman was taken by stretcher to safety, once again despite the undulating terrain.
The call first came in at 5.20pm but it was not only just after midnight that the women were taken to safety because of the conditions. The other woman was not hurt.
