There were emotional scenes at the Torre del Conde in La Gomera when the Canary Island Government and La Gomera Cabildo got together with the citizens of the island.

The event was to celebrate official recognitian by the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity that the whistling language Silbo is alive and well and now part of World Heritage.
Presided over by Paulino Rivero, Casimiro Curbelo and Counsellor of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports Milagros Luis, in the presence of five hundred school children from La Gomera, there was no shortage of whistling exhibitions accompanied by tamborines and drums.
This tribute was the way Gomerans wanted to recognise with respect and pride, the way they have managed to keep their language alive with the help of official Canary Island administrations. It is already an integral part of Gomeran education forming part of the Canary Island identity.
