Changes continue at Tenerife Green Bowls PDF Print E-mail

It has been 10 months since Julie Lincoln and Norman Gardner (Tenerife Green Bowls S.L.) bought 'Tenerife's Premier Bowling Green' at Winter Gardens, Golf del Sur.

In that time the changes made, both structurally and in the ways the new company approach the business has been vast.
Within two months, Julie and Norman turned the onsite restaurant, now called the Rendezvous Restaurant, into one of the most popular a la carte restaurants in Golf del Sur. Indeed the improvement to the restaurant has been so vast that, particularly during Tenerife's busier months, if you do not reserve a table in advance you run a high risk of being disappointed. Indeed, the Restaurant now regularly gets email and telephone bookings from holidaymakers before they arrive on this beautiful island. It is already receiving bookings for Christmas and New Year 2011.
Aside from providing top quality food at reasonable prices, the success of the restaurant has been achieved by the same approach adopted by Julie and Norman in all areas of their business - professional and friendly customer service, provided in high standard surroundings.
From those early beginnings, the restaurant continues to go from strength to strength and will continue to be improved upon wherever and whenever possible.
The bowling green itself has not been forgotten in the whirlwind of changes. The companies aim at the beginning was to open up the sport of bowls to residents of Tenerife and holidaymakers alike.  Through improvements to the green itself and through promotion, it also hopes to open up the sport to more people who have previously never tried the sport and to attract bowlers from further afield. Gradually, TGB is starting to achieve those aims.
Again though, TGB identified areas that needed improving with regard to the facilities themselves and again the service provided to its customers.
Aside from making improvements to the bar servicing it, the bowling green is receiving a much-needed facelift.
After eight years, the bowling surface itself was very tired and not up to the standards expected by TGB. After months of planning, negotiations and all the usual bureaucracy involved in such projects, the bowling carpet is presently in the process of being replaced. The carpet chosen is the new 'Mastergreen'. It is the same type chosen for the bowling venues of this year's Commonwealth games in India.
Along with the new carpet, TGB has also replaced all its hire bowls, to a model of bowls more conducive to people learning to bowl. They should also help those more established bowlers who either don't have their own bowls or don't want to bring them with them on holiday. The hire shoes have not been forgotten either as almost all have been replaced by a much more comfortable, 'trendy' models.
With all those changes and the smaller improvements being made around the green, in a year which saw TGB attract the Scottish National Bowling squad to its facilities for training, things are looking very rosy.
Shortly after taking ownership of the facilities, Julie and Norman introduced a Bistro facility to the existing bar facilities. Thus the Rendezvous Bar and Bistro was born. Offering breakfasts, snacks and light meals throughout the day, the Bistro has become very popular amongst residents and holidaymakers alike. Its surroundings, atmosphere and tranquillity make it an ideal place to enjoy a quiet meal.
Again it was decided that the bar area itself was in need of some T.L.C.. It was decided to leave any major works till later. However, in response to requests from existing patrons, and to ease previously identified problems regarding shade and cold at night, a pagoda was added to the front of the bar in October 2009.
This summer has seen the start of the transformation of the bar and bistro, to something more in keeping with the standards of the rest of the facilities. What started as a building needing some 'tender loving care' has turned into major renovation. From a small bar of around 42m², it is being transformed into an area of just over 130m², whilst being totally refurbished.
Aside from improving better facilities for the Bistro clients and bowlers for their after game 'post mortem', it will also allow TGB to offer its clients activities that are more diverse. Indeed, its clients have requested many of the activities, but due to the bar's previous size, it was impossible to facilitate them.  Some of these activities will include quiz nights and karaoke nights only with a 'twist', showing sporting events, weekly cabaret nights, party nights, theme nights plus a few others that are being kept under wraps at present.
Although a part of the business involves bowling, all of the facilities are open to everyone and anyone to enjoy, resident and holidaymaker alike. Under its previous and current owners the Bowling Green at Winter Gardens has always been 'Tenerife's PREMIER Bowling Green'. With the much-improved bowling green, the addition of the very popular and soon to be, much improved Rendezvous Bistro and the excellent Rendezvous Restaurant, that 'tag' doesn't adequately describe the venue. 'Tenerife's PREMIER bowling facility' is now more apt.
