Scorpio Jewellers celebrating 20 successful years in the jewellery business. Here, we take a special look at the business, its philosophy and how shopping is made a memorable experience.

Q. Scorpio Jewellers has a history stretching back to 1989? How did it all begin?
A. Way back in 1989, when we started with a single store, we always felt that the buyer in this market is after unique designs and quality jewellery at affordable prices. Ever since, it became our vision to be leaders in this niche of the market.
We soon discovered the most important things for survival in a tough and fluid market like Tenerife and that was “trust” and “quality”, together with guarantee and post sales service.
We do make sure that our client fully understands and has 100 per cent trust in our product, which of course come with proper certificates and guarantees. We also follow very stringent quality viz a viz price control.
We always tell our staff, who are more like family, not to consider a sale complete unless the client comes back to you on his next vacation.
Q. Did you start
with just one shop? You have several now, we
understand, in various places in Tenerife?
A. With six stores at present, we have had a steady growth. Our stores are conveniently located and distinctively designed to make shoppinga  pleasurable and memorable moment. You see, buying jewellery is a very intimate and emotional moment because it is normally for an occasion such as an anniversary, engagement, birthday etc and we can proudly say we are professionals in making this
moment an unforgettable memory.
Q. Is jewellery such as diamonds and gold still a good investment? Perhaps you could give our readers a few hints of the types of things they should be buying.
A. Gold and diamonds are the only two commodities whose prices are going up, even during the tough economic crisis we are facing. Even big corporate institutions are investing in gold. With the gold price index shooting up, it is being considered a better investment than property to compare a few.
Jewellery has a two-way advantage. You wear it for personal satisfaction plus you know the market value is also appreciating at the same time. In fact, a diamond is the most expensive thing you can hold in your hand. You cannot hold a wad of 100,000 but it can sit beautifully as a diamond ring on your lady's finger.
Q. How has Scorpio managed to survive when others have not? Do you have a unique selling points?
A. At Scorpio, we have always given special emphasis on customer care and most importantly, after sales services which has played a key role in not only our growth in the past but present as well. Each year, we have more and more customers coming back to us for not only the VIP treatment we offer them but also the large selection of our finely-crafted jewellery at unbeatable prices.
Q. How do you manage to offer such good prices?
A. As manufacturers of jewellery, we can afford to give your clients direct factory prices. We are cutting out the middle man ie the dealer distribution network complete. Also, we believe in the principle of large turn-over and giving the client the 'price factor' advantage.
Q. And what of the future? Do you hope to expand further?
A. We do have a couple of plans up our sleeves. With the growing confidence our clients have shown during these tough times, the only option we are left with is to grow further.
Q. How do you see the future of Tenerife and how should businesses cope with the current financial crisis?
A. Tenerife with its excellent geographical proximity to Europe and the UK, plus the advantage of the sun all-year round, will mean the
island will be back in business before we know it.
The sad part is only those businesses with a strong base and which have followed the philosophy of 'business with a conscious' will survive.
As the world is growing smaller day by day, the only thing which will bring back the 'good old days' to the island is that warm Canary touch and the smile on that face.
Scorpio Jewellers would like to thank all clients and friends for the support shown over the last 20 years in business which has helped them to continue and expand despite the crisis. Do see their regular advertisement in the Tenerife News for details and locations of their shops and they would be delighted to welcome you as a customer.
