More and more these days, holiday-makers want to do something active and like to have the choice of experiences which suit all ages and all abilities.
El Cardón was set up in 1999 and has proved a great success. It has deliberately stayed relatively small so that it can offer a personalised service.
So when thinking about what to do,  living here on the island or just visiting, turn your attention to rural walks and hikes, kayaking, tandem paragliding, astronomy routes, whale watching, orienteering or rock climbing. Don’t worry, you won’t be thrown in at the deep end. The El Cardón team includes fully qualified instructors who speak Spanish, French, English and German.
You might like to follow the Route of Traditions, tackle the stunning Barranco de Masca, climb Mount Teide, conquer La Ruta Monte del Agua, go sea kayaking off the cliffs of Los Gigantes or ride electric bicycles through the Isla Baja.
Rural tourism companies like El Cardon are helping to open up a whole new side of Tenerife which is exactly what tourism chiefs are striving to do - to show people that the island has so much more to offer over and above the traditional package of sun, sand and sea.
El Cardon has a fixed schedule of activities so that people can enjoy daily diving, tandem paragliding, whale watching and biking. Every Tuesday, they offer a walking route through the beautiful Teno countryside and the Barranco del Masca on a Thursday. Saturday and Sunday sees one of the highlights, sea kayaking at Los Gigantes.
El Cardón is committed to the environment and protection of Tenerife and in 2008 won the Tenerife Rural Entrepreneurship and Innovation Award, the first business on the island to do so. Two years later, they received a further environment award and are delighted that their work in preserving the natural and cultural values of the island is being recognised.
