To help you on your way, here are some top tips on cutting back on alcohol consumption.* Stick to your daily recommended units.
* Choose drinks that contain less alcohol.
* Eat before you start drinking as alcohol is absorbed quicker on an empty stomach.
* If you’re thirsty, quench your thirst with a non-alcoholic drink before you start drinking alcohol.
* Avoid salty snacks like crisps or nuts. They will make you feel thirstier, and are often high in fat.
* Alternate an alcoholic drink with a non-alcoholic one to help prevent you becoming dehydrated.
* Drinking in rounds may mean you end up drinking more than you intended. Opt out and drink at your own pace.
* Try cutting down with a friend or as a group, as you’ll be more likely to stick to it with moral support
* Do not top your glass up before finishing your drink.
* Choose a diet mixer or add soda water to lengthen the drink.
* Pace yourself by taking sips.
