Mamma Rosa at Playa de las Américas may have prospered and survived for more than 22 years but it never rests on its laurels or takes its customers for granted.
To this end, this lovely restaurant has recently changed and updated its look, as well as introducing a new menu and presenting a more modern ambience to appeal to all ages. The things that haven’t changed are elegance, top-class cuisine, an excellent varied wine list and, of course, the service you would expect.
Mamma Rosa has never been imposing or stuffy but new decor and furniture, together with a lovely garden room extension, have created more of a chill-out venue. The restaurant is next to the Colón II apartments at the end of The Patch (near the last roundabout, with Santander Bank on the corner, and not far from the Hotel Palmeras). You have views onto the swimming pool and the lovely gardens with an abundance of greenery and flowers.
You can sit in the main part of the restaurant, in the new garden room with its folding glass windows, on the terrace or along the covered verandah. At night, the premises are lit up by candles and look very pretty.
The cuisine is described as classical Italian and Scandinavian with Spanish and French influences, blended together and cooked in a modern style. Part of the new approach is to offer a very extensive fish menu where you have the choice from nearly 30 dishes, such as Loin of Sea Bass with Pistachio Crust and Orange Sauce for 16.75 euros or Fillets of Cherne in Shellfish Sauce served with steamed potatoes for 18.50 euros. As with the meat, the restaurant tries where possible to buy local and support the islands’ agriculture.
Likewise, the wine list allows you to choose a Canary Island wine, together with wines from around the globe such as the mainland, Italy, France etc.
