I wonder what it’s like to eat Mongolian?” That’s a question many people ask when they approach the very popular Mongolian BBQ restaurant in Los Cristianos. The answer is brilliant!
For the uninitiated, this is a completely different way of dining out and a feast for all the senses, not just your tastebuds.
The aroma of the food tempts you to go in straight away and it’s great to see the expert chefs cooking your ingredients on the hot-plates in the open-plan kitchen and listen to the constant sizzle. The restaurant is also great to look at because it is all a very large open air terrace where you can watch the world go by.
The idea of “eating Mongolian” is that you choose your own ingredients ie. fresh diced meat, vegetables, rice etc. and then select a sauce to suit your taste. You then take your bowl up to the chef who will tip the ingredients on to the sizzling hot-plate and toss and turn it until it is cooked to perfection. The real bonus is that you repeat this time and time again all within the set price.
Mongolian cuisine can trace its roots back to the 13th century which is why you will find pictures of Mongolian warriors as part of the decor.
This is a very authentic Mongolian restaurant and the owners spent many months researching how the formula works. It’s a very popular form of dining all over the world as it is very healthy. In fact, there are even websites dedicated solely to following the Mongolian way of dining. Experts say the way to maximise your eating
experience is to keep your choices simple, select one type of meat or fish to get a better flavour result and choose just one sauce. When faced with such an array of food, that is easier said than done! The added bonus here is that you can eat in other styles if you wish and choose from the main menu.
You might fancy going really healthy for the evening and opt for Japanese sushi or sashimi or perhaps have a taste of cross-over Asian cuisine with noodles, Dim Sum, spicy meat dishes or house duck specialities. There are plenty of options for vegetarians too, including Fried Soybean Sprouts or Cabbage with Tofu.
In fact, search out any table of four and each diner might well be having something different or mix and matching their choices.
The staff here speak English and will give you expert advice. On the main menu, there must be nearly 100 dishes, apart from the sushi and the BBQ, with prices to suit all budgets as well.
The restaurant is located on the corner of Avenida Amsterdam and Avenida San Francisco, not far from the Apolo Centre.
