The Three Musketeers venture out once again in search of the best restaurants in the south of Tenerife
This time, we found an absolute gem tucked into the square by the Sunset Bay Club (near the Orlando Complex and just behind the Esmeralda Hotel) in Torviscas.
Casa Tres is truly a jewel of a restaurant with an extensive menu, large and interesting selection of wines and daily specials all at affordable prices.
The vegetarian musketeer enjoyed deep fried Brie as a starter followed by a creamy vegetable curry with avocado, explaining why the dish is listed as Mexican curry. The freshest of produce is a hallmark of Casa Tres. The second secret is the loving preparation these fresh ingredients at the hands of the chef and owner, Mark Murray.
Mark is Irish and trained in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin. He brought this excellent training with him to Tenerife nine years ago and Casa Tres has been providing excellent meals for the past eight years in the same locale. Mark and his wife Mags put a premium on personal service and are always willing to do their best to accommodate any special requests or dietary requirements.
The Fish Musketeer among us found his large piece of hake served over creamed potatoes with a subtle champagne sauce excellent. The fish was accompanied by a medley of fresh mixed vegetables.
The portions at Casa Tres are generous, in fact so generous that we could only manage one home-made sticky toffee pudding between the three of us. The friendly staff were more than happy to supply us with three spoons.
The Meat Musketeer enjoyed a most tender fillet of beef done how he likes it and served with creamed potatoes and a generous portion of vegetables. The plates were all as appealing to the eye as they were to the palate.
The cold smoked salmon was absolutely perfect with generous amounts of smoked salmon arranged as roses. The plate was so pretty it was almost a pity to ruin it by eating.
Casa Tres is a popular place and receives a good deal of return custom and referrals. Reservations here are a must.
The dining room is comfortable and well appointed. Casa Tres also has a romantic terrace bar where a variety of mixed drinks and coffees are available. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is generally live entertainment at the Sunset Bay Club, providing discreet background music for our meal.
Casa Tres is open seven days a week including a special Sunday roast. The daily special is well advertised on the web site www.casatrestenerife.com which is their excellent website with news, recipes and a chance to join their Diners' Club.
