Capital to become rock city! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 23 January 2012 21:15
Details of the event have just been released and names of the headline artists are expected to be revealed shortly.
Organisers promise the festival will set the capital alight on May 24th, 25th and 26th and could bring in as many as 35,000 people with a huge spending power for the island.

The spectacular is all part of the bid by Santa Cruz to increase its profile and the Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez promises it will be an event of such a scale never seen before in the Canary Islands. It is being organised by LM Producciones which has been behind other major concerts. The entertainments company is also intent on helping to revitalise Santa Cruz and help give a massive boost to commerce, economy and tourism in the city.
Although an unprecedented project for the island, it is already being likened to the famous Rock in Rio or BBK Live.

Promoter and director of LM Producciones Leopoldo Mansito said he did not want to make a direct comparison with these two festivals but they would be somewhere in the middle. They did not have the economic capacity to rival Rock in Rio but they would adopt the same kind of philosophy ie. similar to being in an amusement park with plenty of activities to complement the musical offerings.
The May festival is expected to feature international musicians and national artists and will be attracting support from top sponsors which will help with the costs. The site is being given by the Port Authority and will become a rock city. It is hoped there will be exhibitions, video art, shopping malls, markets, a leisure area, alternative sports, food, children’s entertainment, fashion, body painting, chill out rooms and much more.
Work has already started with tour operators to arrange packages to Tenerife especially for the occasion.
Ticket prices are expected to be between 50 and 60 euros, with a bonus card for the three days at 120 euros. This will include admission to the amusement park attractions expected to include a roller ball area, wind tunnel, Formula One simulator, ski slope, skate park, BMC track, paintball and climbing wall and even transport to the site. Bus company Titsa is also involved.
