New mural at port

Visitors arriving at the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma should take time out to admire a new mural.

Entitled “Paving facing the sea”, it measures three by four metres and was created by artist, Alberto Cabrera.

Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca will be in Gran Canaria on June 27th to put the finishing touches to the 48th opera season of the Alfredo Kraus auditorium.

Considered to be one of today’s best singers in her genre, the star will be joined by the island’s Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by London-born Karel Mark Chichon.

Largest fall for 13 years in Spain’s unemployment

The number of unemployed registered with the Public Employment Services in Spain fell by 60,214 in March, putting the total figure at 4,451,939.

This is the largest fall in unemployment in a month of March since 2002. In the last six years, recorded unemployment in March has increased by an average of over 35,000.
